October 3-7: Dinosaurs

Last week was the first week in a long time we didn't have a lot going on. Arthur was feeling under the weather, so we just chilled a lot and didn't do a whole lot of structured learning, although he did impress people at restaurants over the weekend with his reading and writing skills.  We only did school for two days this week, so here is what we did.

LITERACY

We learned the word HE, learned new word wall words, and practiced fluency in readers we've been reading.

(Right:) Arthur reading.

MATH

I introduced the concepts of addition and subtraction. We used these work sheets and fruit snacks. Arthur would count, and tell me what numbers to write down on the sheet.

SCIENCE/SENSORY

We used a kit that Arthur got for his birthday and excavated a dinosaur fossil.

ART

We made a triceratops out of a paper plate!

FUN STUFF

Since it's October, I've pulled out our Halloween story board stuff and we've been doing Halloween stories and songs on the felt board.

This week we're going to get back on schedule, and we'll be learning about trains!

September 26-30: Weather

LITERACY

This week we learned weather words, we started a new reader that had new words in it, we learned the sight word "WAS," and we practiced writing the letter Ww.

MATH

We counted raindrops under rain clouds, and we practiced patterns.

SCIENCE

We made it rain! We talked about the different types of clouds and what they meant. Then we filled a mason jar with water and topped it with shaving cream. Then Arthur squeezed food coloring on top of the shaving cream. We watched it bleed down into the water, like it was raining (found this activity on Pinterest)

ART

We made cloud watching binoculars!

This upcoming week we're learning about Arthur's favorite thing in the world: Dinosaurs!!

September 19-23: Fall

This week we learned about Fall, while the temperatures felt like summer!

LITERACY

We talked about fall, we learned a new sight word, YOU, we learned new words on our word wall, matched beginning sounds, practiced clapping syllables, and continue to read in our beginning readers.

MATH

This week we practiced pattern completion, counting pictures, and noticing pictures that don't belong

SCIENCE

This week we took science to the great outdoors. We visited a local Apple Orchard and learned about pollination, the growing cycle of apple trees, and harvesting. And then we ate apple goodies for you know, science.

ART

This week we made a scarecrow out of a paper plate!

SENSORY

This week a mom in our playgroup hosted a slime making party, so we used that as our sensory activity. It was a lot of fun, and Arthur loved to squish the slime in his hands.

MUSIC

"Way up High in an apple tree, 5 shiny apples smiled down at me. I shook that tree as hard as I could, down came an apple. Mmm-mmm was it good."

COMPUTER

Kid Pix at the library.

Next week we will learn about all the different kinds of weather!
